Reality: This is a Misconception. UPSC never asks anything beyond the scope of it’s syllabus. You don’t need to mug up everything under the sun. Instead, simply focus on the basic concepts, current affairs, and books by a few renowned authors. The exam demands a sound general awareness and analytical skills.

Myth 3: At least 2-3 attempts are required.

Reality: This is just another misconception. There are so many aspirants who have cleared the examination in the very first attempt. Just keep it simple and focused on a single. Revise as many times you can and once you are done, take multiple mock tests to evaluate your weaknesses and work on it.

Reality: Don’t do it. You may learn from their experiences, but definitely you must not copy them. It may be lethal. There is nothing such as an ideal preparation. Thus, it is crucial for the aspirants to follow their own rhythm and routine and make an informed choice when it comes to creating a preparation strategy.

Myth 5: It is mandatory to have a good command over English to ace the interview

Reality: UPSC Civil Services Examination assesses awareness and analyzing skills. While proper communication through language is necessary to portray your thoughts, but it hardly tests one’s language proficiency. The aspirants are allowed to attempt the paper and give the interview in almost 22 regional languages, as per their comfort level. So always go for the language in which you feel most comfortable.
