Background

Water is sold mainly in plastics, whether 1-liter pet bottles or 20-liter bubble cans which are neither healthy for human consumption nor the environment.
While plastics are not bio-degradable, they can break up into tiny fragments called microplastic and can wreak havoc.
They then end up in water bodies, get eaten by fish and other aquatic beings, and can gradually make it to the human body.

The packaged drinking water brand Caro Water comes in a paper carton that claims to use 85% less plastic.
Caro water is nutrient-enriched water that influences its customers through a green lifestyle, health consciousness, and the planet.
It has made 5-liter, 10-liter, and 20-liter boxes for households, corporate offices, hospitals, hotels, events, catering services, and more.
Based on a bag-in-box concept with options including a plastic dispensing tap, the company claims that it has reduced the use of plastic by 85% in comparison to PET containers and also that it uses 100% plastics.
Caro Water claims its boxes have a longer shelf life, eco-friendly packaging, nutrient-enriched water, a hygienic filling process, tamper-proof taps, and the plastics its uses are BPA-free.
The boxes are claimed to be easier to carry, and more easily dispensable and recyclable through a company program.

Bisphenol A (BPA)

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemical produced in large quantities for use primarily in the production of polycarbonate plastics. It is found in various products including shatterproof windows, eyewear, water bottles, and epoxy resins that coat some metal food cans, bottle tops, and water supply pipes. Research has shown that exposure to BPA can disrupt the functioning of the endocrine system. Exposure to BPA is a concern because of the possible health effects on the brain and prostate gland of foetuses, infants, and children. It can also affect children's behavior. Additional research suggests a possible link between BPA and increased blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.

Products that are BPA-free do not contain any traces of Bisphenol-A. As concerns regarding the safety of BPA and its ability to leach into foods and beverages have grown, many manufacturers have committed to making BPA-free products.
