Context: New species of cuckoo wasp named Trichrysis poseidonia has been discovered. 

Details:

  • The specific name is derived from the Greek god of the sea, Poseidon, for the three sharp and pointed teeth that appear in this form, reminiscent of Poseidon's trident.
  • The name cuckoo wasps arise from the fact that they are kleptoparasitic (stealing food from others) just like the cuckoo bird. Also, use other’s nests for their children.
  • The cuckoo wasps are a group of 76 species and are more parasitic than other wasps.
  • The members of the family Chrysididae are more active in warm areas and they are heliophilic (more active in sunlight).

Identification:

They are usually bright green in color.

Habitat:

They live in cities, forests and forests, and grasslands.

Feeding and diet:

They can be found wandering around the garden feeding on flower nectar and looking for nests.
