Context: 

The Prime Minister of India called  for framing of a Global Digital Framework, for ethical use of technology at the inauguration of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) - World Telecommunication Standardisation Assembly (WTSA) and India Mobile Congress (IMC).

What is the Ethical use of technology?

It refers to the compassionate evaluation and assessment of the moral implications, consequences and considerations associated with the development and use of modern technologies with a focus on responsibility, originality, risk, justice, equity, and autonomy.

Principles of ethical use of technology 

Principles

There should be principled use of technology. The principles can include risk management, individual rights, and justice. Principled use of technology benefits society and minimises harm. 

Protection

There is a need to protect against misuse of technology, such as through privacy ethics. Privacy ethics involves the collection, storage, usage, and protection of an individual's data.

Societal impact

The broader societal impact of technology, such as socioeconomic disparities, cultural implications, and environmental concerns should be considered.

Netiquette

It involves following the rules of an online community, such as giving credit to original sources and avoiding unsolicited emails.

Responsible use

It involves being thoughtful and effective digital creators. For example, in the classroom, students can learn how to use technology responsibly with teacher oversight.

Global Digital Framework for Ethical use of Technology

It is a proposed framework by the Prime Minister of India for global 'dos' and 'don'ts' to safeguard citizens from negative impacts of technology such as cyber crimes and deep fakes.

It includes the development of ethical AI and data privacy rules that account for cultural and national diversity.

Aim

It aims at global cooperation in ethical use of technology as digital technologies transcend national boundaries and international cooperation is needed to combat cyber risks. 

It will aim to ensure a set of safety and operational standards in the digital realm.

It also aims to create a digital ecosystem that ensures security, respects individual privacy, and promotes ethical technology use.

India Mobile Congress 2024

It is the 8th edition of the India Mobile Congress held at Bharat Mandapam.

It was organised by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), the Union Ministry of Communication and the Cellular Operator Association of India (COAI).

It showcased India’s innovation ecosystem, with the  leading telecom companies and innovators highlighting advancements in  Quantum technology and Circular Economy along with spotlight on 6G, 5G use-case showcase, cloud & edge computing, IoT, semiconductors, cybersecurity, green tech, satcom and electronics manufacturing.

The India Mobile Congress 2024 was participated by over 400 exhibitors, about 900 startups, and over 120 countries. 

The congress also aims to showcase more than 900 technology use sessions, host more than 100 sessions and discussion with over 600 global and Indian speakers.
