The Union Cabinet has approved the signing of the ‘Letter of Intent’ to join the ‘Energy Efficiency Hub’.

International Energy Efficiency Hub 

About

It is a global platform dedicated to enhancing collaboration and promoting energy efficiency worldwide.

The Hub brings together governments, international organizations, and private sector entities to share knowledge, best practices, and innovative solutions. 

Establishment

It was established in 2020 as the successor to the International Partnership for Energy Efficiency Cooperation (IPEEC). India was a member of IPEEC.

Members

As of July 2024, sixteen countries (Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, European Commission, France, Germany, Japan, Korea, Luxembourg, Russia, Saudi Arabia, United States and the United Kingdom) have joined the Hub.

Implementing Agency for India

The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), the statutory agency, has been designated as the implementing agency for the Hub on behalf of India. 

Significance for India

Membership of India cement's India's commitment to sustainable development aligns with its efforts to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions.

It will open up a huge network of experts and resources for India to increase domestic energy efficiency initiatives.

Partnership with other member states and gaining experience through learning from one another, sharing its expertise, and international best practice will be ensured.

Through the development and adoption of energy-efficient technologies and practices, India shall contribute to global efforts to mitigate climate change.

India's entry into this global platform would ensure better energy security as well as acceleration of a low-carbon economy.
