The Union government has recently approved the Journalist Welfare Scheme to provide financial assistance to the families of journalists who lost their lives during the Covid-19 Pandemic.
The scheme was adopted based on the recommendations made by the Journalist Welfare Scheme (JWS) committee.
The Committee was chaired by the Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
Under the Scheme, the Union government to provide financial relief to the families of 35 journalists who have lost their lives.
The families will get financial assistance up to Rs 5 lakh.
About 123 families of journalists who lost their lives owing to Covid-19 have received financial assistance under the scheme.
Under the scheme, Journalists will also get the benefit of financial assistance in the event of accidents, disabilities, or serious medical conditions.
