  • India and Nigeria have a long history of friendship and cooperation that dates back to the colonial era. Both countries are large, diverse, and democratic nations that share common values and interests in the global arena.
  • India and Nigeria are also important partners in trade, investment, energy, defence, education, health, and culture.
  • According to the Ministry of External Affairs of India, India-Nigeria trade in 2018-19 amounted to US$13.89 billion. India is Nigeria's leading investor, with an investment base of about $20 billion. More than 135 Indian firms operate in Nigeria, in various sectors such as telecommunications, engineering, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, plastics, etc.
  • Nigeria is one of the largest suppliers of crude oil to India, accounting for about 12% of India's oil imports. India also provides technical assistance and training to Nigerian personnel in the oil and gas sector.
  • India has been providing training and capacity-building assistance to Nigerian defence forces under various programmes. India has also supplied defence equipment and platforms to Nigeria, such as helicopters, patrol vessels, radars and communication systems.
