  • The Minister of State for Communications has released a Memorial Postage Stamp on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of PIN Code, in Gujarat.
  • He also launched the e-Passbook. It will provide the following services:
    • No need to visit the Post Office to print the Passbook or to know the balance.
    • It will save a lot of manual work.
    • No need to have a separate Mobile Banking app.
    • Simple and user-friendly webpage.
  • On this occasion, the Minister launched the ‘PLI Mobile Training App’ to provide online training.
    • The App contains training material in audio/visual mode.

Pincode

  • The Department of Posts comes under the Ministry of Communications.
  • Postal Index Number (PIN) or Pincode is used by India Post for the numbering of the post office or post code system.
  • It is a 6 digits code.
    • The first digit reflects the region.
    • The second digit reflects the sub-region.
    • The third dight reflects the district.
    • The last three digits represent the post office code.
  • India has nine PIN zones.
    • Zone 1 - Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Chandigarh.
    • Zone 2 - Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand.
    • Zone 3 - Rajasthan, Gujarat, Daman and Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
    • Zone 4 - Maharashtra, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh.
    • Zone 5 - Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka.
    • Zone 6 - Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry, Lakshadweep.
    • Zone 7 - West Bengal, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Assam, Sikkim.
    • Zone 8 - Bihar, Jharkhand.
    • Zone 9 - Army Postal Service (APS), Field Post Office (FPO).
