Context

• The Pradhan Mantri National Apprenticeship Mela (PMNAM) organised by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) is being held across 280 locations.

 

Government’s Vision

• The government is striving to train 1 million youth per annum through apprenticeship training and to fulfil the set goals of skill India mission,

 

About PMNAM

• PMNAM is being used as a platform to increase the participation of establishments and students. It is also providing awareness to the youth on various opportunities existing across the participating companies.
• Apprenticeship Mela is held every second Monday of each month.

 

Aim of PMNAM

• The aim of this event is to provide local youth with the opportunity to shape their careers through apprenticeship training and get employed.

Opportunity under PMNAM

• The young and aspiring workforce will be able to choose among 500+ trades such as welding, electrical work, housekeeping, beauticians, mechanic work, and more.
• Candidates will also earn National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET)-recognized certifications, improving their employability after the training.
• The major purpose of this programme is to encourage companies to hire more apprentices while also assisting employers in discovering and developing their potential via training and practical skillsets.
• Participating companies in the PM National Apprenticeship Melas have the chance to meet potential apprentices on a single platform and choose applicants on-the-spot. Furthermore, small-scale enterprises with at least four employees can hire apprentices during the event.

 

Eligibility

• To be selected for the training, a candidate must have a 5th-12th grade pass certificate, a skill training certificate, an ITI Diploma, or a graduate degree.

 

Significance

• Apprenticeship training facilitates ‘learning by earning’ and ‘learning by doing’, combining formal education with hands-on experience and improving links between industry and training institutions.
• The Apprenticeship Mela will provide additional job opportunities for talented individuals across the country.
• Apprenticeship is most sustainable model under skill development and getting a big boost under Skill India.

 

National Council of Vocational Education and Training (NCVET) The National Council of Vocational Education and Training (NCVET), notified in 2018 has been set up as an overarching umbrella regulator establishing regulations and standards to ensure quality in the 'Technical and vocational education and training' (TVET) space, subsuming the responsibilities of National Skill Development Agency (NSDA) and the erstwhile National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT). NCVET regulated ecosystem will ensure strong industry interfacing, layered effective regulations for the varied stakeholders for improving outcomes, set standards for Awarding Bodies and Assessment Agencies. The major functions of NCVET include: A. Recognition and regulation of Awarding Bodies (ABs), Assessment Agencies(AAs) and Skill related Information Providers B. Approval of qualifications as per the NSQF (National Skills Qualification Framework) C. Monitoring, Evaluation and Supervision of recognized entities D. Grievance Redressal of the varied stakeholders   In terms of composition, the council shall be headed by Chairperson, NCVET, it will have two Executive members and three Non – Executive members along with a Nominated member.
