A group of birders, who visited Kurichi tank in Coimbatore spotted a Red-necked phalarope (Phalaropus lobatus).

Details

The red-necked phalarope (Phalaropus lobatus), also known as the northern phalarope and hyperborean phalarope, is a small wader.
It has a circumpolar distribution and is found in both boreal and tundra zones between 60- and 70-degrees latitude.
This phalarope breeds in the Arctic regions of North America and Eurasia.
It is migratory, and, unusually for a wader, winters at sea on tropical oceans.
The red-necked phalarope is one of the species to which the Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds (AEWA) applies.
