About

• Steel Authority of India Limited(SAIL) is a central public sector undertaking based in New Delhi.
• It is the largest government-owned steel producer and one of the Maharatnas of the country's Central Public Sector Enterprises.

• It is under the ownershipof Ministry of Steel.

Establishment

• Incorporated on 24 January 1973.

Operation

• SAIL operates and owns five integrated steel plants at Bhilai, Rourkela, Durgapur, Bokaroand Burnpur (Asansol) and three special steel plants at Salem, Durgapur and Bhadravathi.
• It also owns a Ferro Alloyplant at Chandrapur.

Expansion

• As a part of its global ambition, the PSU is undergoing a massive expansion and modernization program involving upgrading and building new facilities with an emphasis on state-of-the-art green technology.
