Context

• The 11th edition of the annual joint military exercise, SAMPRITI, commenced on October 3, 2023, in Umroi, Meghalaya.

Details

• This exercise, which alternates between the two countries, is a testament to the strong bilateral defence cooperation initiatives between India and Bangladesh.
• SAMPRITI, initiated in 2009 in Jorhat, Assam, has seen ten successful editions until 2022.

Objectives

• The primary objectives of SAMPRITI-XI are to enhance interoperability between the Indian and Bangladeshi armies, share tactical drills, and promote best practices in military operations.
• The exercise focuses on Sub-Conventional Operations, aligning with Chapter VII of the UN mandate.

Exercise Components

• Command Post Exercise (CPX): Twenty officers from each contingent will participate in the CPX, emphasizing decision-making through thorough deliberations.
• Field Training Exercise (FTX): The FTX will validate grassroots-level operations and include joint tactical drills for counter-terrorist operations, such as hostage rescue, crowd control measures, and the use of helicopters.
• Validation Exercise: The culmination of the exercise will be the Validation Exercise conducted on October 14th and 15th, 2023, in Darranga Field Firing Range, Assam. This exercise will showcase the prowess of 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' equipment.

 SAMPRITI-XI is a testament to the robust defence partnership between India and Bangladesh and serves as a platform to enhance military cooperation and interoperability, contributing to regional stability and security.
