Context:

The 5th Edition of Vietnam Indian Bilateral Army Exercise “VINBAX 2024” commenced at Ambala.

Details:

  • The exercise is scheduled to be conducted from 04 to 23 November 2024 at Ambala and Chandimandir.
  • The exercise is a sequel to previously conducted bilateral exercise in Vietnam in 2023 and a major milestone in strengthening the bilateral relations between India and Vietnam.

About VINBAX 2024

Exercise History

It is a bilateral army exercise conducted between India and Vietnam.

Began in 2018; the first edition held in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh; held annually, alternating between India and Vietnam.

Enhanced Scope of Vinbax 2024

First time participants include personnel from both the Army and Air Force of both countries.

Focus of Vinbax 2024

Enhancing capability in deploying the Engineer Company for United Nations Peacekeeping Operations under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter.

Aim of Vinbax Exercise

The aim of VINBAX-2024 is to enhance the joint military capability of both sides in the employment and deployment of Engineer Companies and Medical

Teams to undertake engineering tasks as part of the United Nations Contingent in Peace Keeping Operations under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter.

End of Exercise

Concludes with a 48-hour Validation Exercise showcasing standards attained by Indian and Vietnamese troops.

India-Vietnam Defence Ties

Strong political and defense ties; strategic partnership established in 2007, elevated to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2016.

Recent Defence Engagements

India gifted an indigenously built missile corvette, INS Kirpan, to Vietnam in June 2023 during the visit of Vietnam’s Defence Minister General Phan Van Giang

Vietnamese Naval ships participated in the MILAN maritime exercise in India in February 2024.
