Context

  • MeitY has launched the Vishwasaya-Blockchain Technology Stack.
  • The government also introduced the NBFLite-Lightweight Blockchain Platform and Praamaanik, a blockchain-enabled solution for verifying the origin of mobile apps.

Details

Vishwasaya-Blockchain Technology Stack

What is it?

It is a comprehensive Blockchain-as-a-Service platform - with the objective of bringing more transparency, security, and efficiency in the delivery of e-Services provided by the Government.

Understanding Blockchain-as-a-Service (BaaS)

  • BaaS is based on the software as a service (SaaS) model and works similarly.
  • It allows customers to leverage cloud-based solutions to build, host, and operate their own blockchain apps and related functions on the blockchain.
  • At the same time, the cloud-based service provider keeps the infrastructure agile and operational.
  • As a development in the greater blockchain ecosystem, BaaS is seen as boosting blockchain adoption across businesses.

Key Features of Vishvasya-Blockchain Technology Stack

  • Blockchain-as-a-Service: The Vishvasya stack provides a permissioned BaaS setup that is geo-distributed, hosted across three critical data centers in Bhubaneswar, Pune, and Hyderabad.
  • Security and Scalability:
  • Ready-to-use blockchain containers: These are security audited for production setup.
  • Blockchain security guidelines: The stack comes with best practices related to security and audit guidelines that keep the operations safe.
  • Geographically distributed infrastructure: robust, highly scalable for broad-ranging applications.
  • Supports Rapid Prototyping and Research: The lite version of Blockchain platform-NBFLite, allows quick prototyping, research, and learning hence innovation in a secure, controlled environment.
  • Salient Modules of NBF:
  • Distributed Infrastructure: This constitutes the backbone of the resilient network.
  • Core Framework Functionality: Allows development and integration of blockchain applications.
  • Smart Contracts & API Gateway: Enables a secure and automated procedure for cross-platform transactions.
  • Security, Privacy & Interoperability: Follows measures for data protection, thus the smooth interaction between different blockchain systems.

Applications

  • e-Stamps Solution
  • Judiciary Application
  • Management of Training Records, Service Level of Civil servants
  • Forensic Applications
  • Consent Management Framework
  • IoT Device Security Management
  • Agriculture and Commodity Tracking
  • Digitization and Tamper-proof Domicile, Caste, Property, Education Certificate Chains of Various Documents for Improved Verification and Reduced Fraud.

PRACTICE QUESTION

Q: Consider the following statements regarding Network as a Service:

1. It is a cloud-based service model that provides networking capabilities to users on a subscription basis.

2. Organizations need to own, manage, or maintain physical networking hardware and equipment.

Which of the above statements is/are incorrect?

a) 1 only
b) 2 only
c) both 1 and 2
d) neither 1 nor 2

Answer: c)

Explanation:

1st statement is correct: Network as a Service (NaaS) is a cloud computing model that provides organizations with on-demand access to networking resources over the Internet. In NaaS, traditional systems networking parts like routers, switches, firewalls, and different devices are virtualized and given as services through cloud service providers.

2nd statement is incorrect:  NaaS enables organizations to access and utilize network resources and infrastructure without the need to own, manage, or maintain physical networking hardware and equipment. Instead, networking services are delivered over the internet or through a dedicated network infrastructure, allowing for greater flexibility, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.
