Abhay Anti-Submarine Warfare Ship

Context

The seventh anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft (ASW SWC), ‘Abhay’, is being built by India's leading shipbuilding.

Contract

2019 contract between the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE).

Over 80 percent.

Primary Operations

Anti-submarine warfare in coastal waters; capable of Low-Intensity Maritime Operations (LIMO) and mine-laying activities.

Capabilities

Subsurface surveillance in coastal waters; tracking surface and underwater targets; coordinated anti-submarine operations with aircraft.

Propulsion

Waterjet-propelled; capable of speeds up to 25 knots.

Armament

Context

Prime Minister inaugurated a plant in Vadodara, where Tata Advanced Systems Ltd (TASL) will manufacture the C-295 aircraft for the Indian Air Force (IAF).

 About Tata Advanced Systems Ltd (TASL)

It is an Indian aerospace manufacturing, military engineering, and defense technology company. It is a fully owned subsidiary of Tata Sons, a holding company for the Tata Group. TASL entered into a joint venture with Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation to manufacture the Sikorsky S-92 helicopter in India for the domestic civil and military markets.
