Uttar Pradesh received the highest award in the Best State category at the 3rd National Water Awards 2020, followed by Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu.
About the award
The first National Water Award was launched in 2018 by the Ministry of Jal Shakti.
It was created to recognize and promote exemplary work and efforts by states, districts, individuals, and organizations across the country to realize Jal Samridh Bharat.

Encourage stakeholders to take a holistic approach to national water resources management.
Government is trying to raise public awareness of the importance of water and motivate them to adopt the best water usage practices because water is indispensable.
India accounts for more than 18% of the world's population and accounts for only 4% of the world's renewable water resources.

Best State, Best District, Best Village Panchayat, Best Urban Local Body, Best Media (Printed and Electronic), Best School, Best Institute / RWA / Religious Organization for Campus Use, Best Industry, Best NGO, Best Water For user associations and best industry CSR activities. Some of these categories have subcategories of different zones in the country.
